Howry has undertaken on a new opportunity and has opened a Semi-Independent Living Services (SILS) Home at the old Diamond location in South St. Paul. This new home, called Lapis, is similar to Mica in that it is staffed by Behavioral Specialists. However, some of the goals of the house include training and assist the clients in managing money, preparing meals, shopping, hygiene and other activities needed to maintain and improve the capacity of an adult with a developmental disability to live in the community. Overall, the main goal of SILS, not unlike the rest of Howry clients, is to support people in ways that help them achieve their goals and direct their own lives.
Currently the house has one client living upstairs; however, we are currently searching for two individuals to occupy the lower level. We are excited for this new adventure and we cannot wait to see where it takes us.
